The Faroe Islands were honored with a "Best in Travel 2021" award in the "Community Connection" category. Guðrið Højgaard, CEO of Visit Faroe Islands, says that events like HOYMA, Heimablídni and Closed for Maintenance are some of the reasons for the win.

Guðrið Højgaard wrote in a post on Facebook:

Express mail from London this morning from Lonely Planet as the Faroe Islands is one of the destinations on the Best in Travel 2021 list.
This recognition is special to us, as the community is at the heart of our everyday lives. From Heimablídni (‘home hospitality’) supper clubs, where locals invite tourists into their homes for traditional homemade Faroese food, to HOYMA, the acoustic music festival performed in the living rooms of locals’ homes, we are a small nation with a big spirit. Even our Closed for Maintenance project is mentioned in the nomination.
This year, 2020, has seen testing times for communities all over the world, and we are proud that our community spirit has remained resilient, and we look forward to warmly welcoming visitors in 2021.
